Community Involvement FAQ

How much does Whole Foods Market donate to charitable causes on an annual basis?

While the exact amount varies from year to year, we are committed to giving at least five percent of our annual net profits to charitable causes.

How do I request a donation?

If your non-profit organization is seeking a donation or sponsorship, please contact the Marketing Director at the Whole Foods Market nearest you. Some of our stores provide on-line donation request forms on this site that you can download. Visit your local store's web pages for more information and to see if your store has a specific form.

What is a 5% Day?

Three times a year, individual stores hold 5 Percent Days (or CommUnity Giving Days), donating 5% of that day's sales to a local or regional non-profit or educational organization. Additionally, every January and October, all stores world-wide team up to hold Global 5 Percent Days in which 5% of net sales is dedicated to the work of the Whole Planet Foundation.

How do you choose beneficiaries for your 5% Days?

Each store's leadership determines the beneficiaries based on the needs of their local community. We generally partner with groups focused on:

  • Education: school support organizations, home schooling, etc.
  • Community & culture: arts organizations, museums, parks, etc.
  • Human interest: elder care, special diet support groups, homeless assistance, etc.
  • Environmental issues: organics, natural wildlife protection, green living, etc.

For more information, visit your local store's web pages.

Who do I contact for a donation or sponsorship on a regional or national level?

We are a decentralized company with ten autonomous operating regions, meaning that many decisions, such as which non-profit organizations to support, are handled at the regional or store level. While we are committed to donating at least five percent of our annual net profits to charitable causes, each region chooses the sponsorships and donations that support their local communities. Please contact the Whole Foods Market Regional Office or store nearest you.
